New York

Time has absolutely flown since we have been home from San Francisco and New York. The days and weeks are rolling past at a lightening fast pace. I’ve written a little about our time in San Francisco and now it’s time to relive New York. It was our first time in New York and it’s a city I have longed to visit. As first timers we did all the typical tourist stuff like Times Square and the Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge and we went to Central Park which was amazing and if it was sooo cold and we’d had more time I’d have loved to have explored a little more. The vastness of the park is breathtaking. We spent some time checking out Brooklyn including Brooklyn Brews and walking around Williamsberg and Park Slope – where I had the best beef chilli soup of my life along with the best brownie of my life….

One day I caught up with fellow photographer Angela and her husband Rob, it was fantastic being able to get to know some real New Yorkers and hear about living in such an amazing city. It was a freezing day when we took these photos but I had so much fun I didn’t want to stop. Eventually though it was time for hot chocolate and we met up with another New Yorker photographer and her husband and we whiled away some time in the warmth of a coffee shop and fun conversation. Meeting new people really does add to travel and I loved meeting these guys – I want Angela and Rob to head out to Australia for a catch up and to show them ‘my town’.  Check out how completely cute they are! They were such fun to be with and to photograph.

All in all it was an amazing trip and I am so glad that I was able to do it with my husband, he’s a wonderful man, a great father, an awesome teacher and there is no one I’d have rather experienced New York with. Enough chit chat. Check out the photos…

These are wonderful. What a stunning place to photograph in and the couple look so happy in love x

oh Brrrrrr, I can feel the cold just looking at these photos. So jealous, what a wonderful time you had. Gorgeous work to :-)

Sooo jealous! These photos make me want to be there – love them!

Growing up in England I thought I knew cold…that was until i visited New York for a Thanksgiving weekend one year! The wind was like ice. Such an amazing city though and these photos are beautifully captured.

San Francisco

This year my husband and I are celebrating ten years of marriage! We decided that the best way to celebrate would be to travel to some place we’d never been before. After some thought we decided we’d go to San Francisco and New York.  I have to say I absolutely loved San Francisco, so many people talk about how amazing San Francisco is and what a cool city it is. The expectations were high. What I loved most of all were the beautiful Victorian terrace homes lining the hilly streets, each one different and all with personality. I loved riding the famous cable cars right on dusk as the lights began to winkle up the hills and down in the valley’s, it reminded me of christmas trees and there was just a hint of something on the cool air that made you feel, feel exactly what it’s hard to say. But it’s when you are truly present in the moment and you feel connected to the time and place. I wish you could bottle those moments. I know Alcatraz is “the” place to go but if anyone wants my recommendation don’t miss Anchor Brewery – it was outstanding and you don’t even need to be a beer fanatic to enjoy it. The brewery had a great atmosphere and a rich history and yep – free beer. It was one of my highlights of our whole trip.

Another highlight was meeting fellow photographer Rachelle and her gorgeous little girl. We met up in Hayes Valley and took some photos around the lovely terrace homes (I want to live in one for these houses one day) and stopped in at the super sweet and adorably styled “Miette” – lets just say it was cupcake and macaroon heaven. After that we headed for the beach and the idea was to get the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in the background for a truly San Fran feel – but there is this climatic thing that happens in San Francisco and wouldn’t you know it the bridge was covered in a fog that had rolled right on it. Even so it was beautiful spot and I’m so grateful to Rachelle for giving us a tour of her town and a great tip for our next feed!

Nothing Means More Than Family {Boonah Portrait Photographer}

One of the very best things about being a portrait and wedding photographer is that at the heart of every image I take is family. In our lives we often strive to focus on the important things but all too often we are inundated with a million other things that life throws in our path and sometimes the most important things in our lives don’t get to take prime position. When we have our family photos taken we do it because we want to cherish the people in our lives and the connection we have with them. The memories of our children while they are young, while dear to us start to fade and they grow so incredibly fast. We want our children to understand just how much they were loved – when they look at the photos from this time in their lives, that is what you want them to see. By taking having your family portraits taken it is taking some time out of our busy lives to highlight what is most important, the people we cherish more than life – our families.

The photos I am sharing today are what got me thinking about this. I met this lovely family years back when we had both just moved to our local town, we got chatting in the hairdresser only to find out that both of our eldest children would be starting pre-school together. In the blink of an eye those same kiddos are now in grade 7. Their eldest son and my eldest daughter were recently named the boy and girl school captains. We couldn’t be prouder…but a tiny bit of my heart aches at how swiftly that time passed. The flip side is that I get to capture in my photos all the best things about life and family and love. Lucky me!

Brothers {Boonah Photographer}

A little while back I photographed three gorgeous brothers in a pretty gorgeous location! We climbed the hill and the boys kicked a footy and do what boys do best. We took a few shots with their lovely mamma too – photos of mums with their kiddos alway make my heart happy! I just love this one as littlest brother looks up to biggest brother. Sweet, sweet sweet.

Emily & Luke {Gold Coast Wedding}

I have to say that Emily and Luke’s wedding was one of the most fun and hilarious weddings I have been to! The day had a lot of surprises and fun moments. And yet despite all the funny moments there were lots of emotions. It was a joy to be a part of day like that.  I love the sequence of Emily’s dad seeing her for the first time as a bride – he goes from massive smiles to tears in a few seconds – as a mother I can see how that happens. At the end of Emily and Luke’s ceremony Emily surprised Luke with a chorus of singers – including herself, it was akin to a flash mob. It had the whole room in raptures! After the ceremony we headed to the beach for some sunset photos – the bridal party was on fire – lots of of crazy antics.Then the ceremony began and there were so many touching speeches, a few happy tears and then a guest appearance from “Billy Idol” singing “White Wedding” – that performance was something I won’t forget too quickly. Even Emily and Luke’s bridal waltz  held some surprises.  The dance started off as per usual but then with all the laughter I can’t recall how many different styles of dance I saw – I recall an Irish jig. It was hard to hold the camera!

All in all it was a magical wedding day.
